Video surveillance in modern cities

It's very easy to record anything you want to see. Surveillance opens fascinating possibilities to prevent crime, protect properties and lives, impact on social behavior and catch valuable lifetime moments.

Are "Big Birds" Watching You?

At the same time crazy things can happen with the usage of video monitoring systems. In these cases surveillance is associated with the total government control, interference with private life and all kinds of unwanted spying. And anyone who's living with such idea will start thinking that even birds are staring at us.
Are “Big Birds” watching you?
The photo below with so many cameras was taken in Shanghai's Baoshan District. Cameras were took down soon after this picture went viral.
Multiple cams to watch street traffic
According to hugchina.com: "Many online users questioned the need for so many devices in one place. They expressed concern that it was a waste of public money. And some suspected the traffic police installed so many surveillance cameras as a convenient way to profit from fining drivers."
The idea of putting so many cameras in order to monitor the traffic is not really logical, as one or two cams are enough to catch the whole street view. It is more likely that the cams were used for real-world testing by manufacturers or service providers.
Other fun facts: in Austria those who install cams in a car can face a €10,000 ($13,400) fine. In South Korea and Japan the industry accepts the following position: people can take a picture, but should notify others by making a shutter-click noise which cannot be turned off (source is here).

Transferring Experience

Google Glass
Meanwhile, the very much talked about Google Glass is pretending to take place next to the modern surveillance cams. Though experts forecast that Google Glass is more about transferring experience from one person to another than a video monitoring service.
This is going to be a quick alternative to "how to" or explanatory videos as well. We would be able to see such captured moments like surgical operations and car repairs. So this is not only about movie making, video monitoring, but is about a new way of online education.
By the way, Google removed the facial recognition function from this tech product betting on the increase of user’s credibility in a future.
According to The Economist: "Last year privacy advocates encouraged Facebook to disable facial recognition for users across Europe and delete the data it had already collected.

Intelligent Building

Surveillance technology is improving and its new tendencies touch many related areas. Many architects and urban planners are already incorporating visual surveillance in the design of new towns and buildings. In so called "intelligent buildings" CCTV becomes an integral part of architecture.
Though some crazy things and government interference happen in the surveillance world, the belief in that the society will benefit more with the new technologies should be on the top priority. The same way hesitations and frustrations appeared in the society during of many previous technological revolutions.

Configuring IP camera in Mobiscope

In this post we will explain how to add IP cameras to Mobiscope for mobile video monitoring. This guide is for those who have successfully connected a regular web-camera, but have some doubts about how to connect network cameras.

Let's take a look at a video. It shows how to create account, how to connect to IP cameras, set up motion detection alerts and watch videos in the mobile app.

Make sure you have followed these steps:
  1. Created an account on mobiscope.com
  2. Gave a name to your video source in Dashboard
  3. Downloaded and installed free desktop software on your computer.

Where exactly can I configure IP camera?
Go to Mobiscope desktop application and click on "Add Network Camera"

What is the difference between web and IP camera settings?
Once you open Mobiscope desktop application, you will automatically see video stream from computer’s built-in camera or USB-connected web-camera. In order to connect with network cameras, fill in camera's IP address and port, select manufacturer and specify the model (please see below)

How many cameras can I add to one video source?
It is possible to connect up to 4 cameras to one video source.

Which network cameras are compatible with Mobiscope?
Mobiscope works with most IP Cameras, check the full list in the Manufacturer drop-down list in desktop app. If you own one of these network cameras, then you can use it for Mobiscope mobile video monitoring right away. If you don’t have a camera and are looking for one, then refer to online shop.

How do I know my camera's IP address and port number?
All camera manufacturers may present this information in a different way, there isn’t any universal guide. In most cases, default IP address and port number information is present in camera’s setup manual. Also you might want to take a closer look on camera itself, it may be on one of the stickers attached to it. If you can’t find it, contact camera’s manufacturer or Mobiscope support team for further assistance.

How can I view videos on my smartphone or tablet?
Add the same video source name and type its password in the Mobiscope app. In a few seconds you will able to watch live video stream on your device.

Knock-knock at front door

front door camera
Mobiscope suggests another interesting solution for its users - watching everything that goes on at front door. View front door camera using Mobiscope app to decide either to respond to people or to avoid them.

No need to go downstairs or pull yourself out of the bed to check who is there. And even when you are not home, why not secure the apartment by configuring motion detection in app and checking if someone is knocking or unlocking the front door?

Hot Mobiscope Advice for Summer Travelers!

What do we do and how do we feel when it is time for vacations and business trips? Happy, satisfied, intrigued? Exactly! But while we start getting ready for a trip, extra attention to details becomes extremely important. Some prefer to-do lists, others keep all "musts" in mind. Usually when we prepare for a trip, we tend to think about next things:

 1. Do not forget to take passport, credit cards, some cash, tickets, sunglasses and toothbrush. That’s priority No 1! :)

2. And what about the house?
3. And what about babies?  Some kids are too small for long transits and jet lags!
4. Do you own a dog, cat or fish? Travelling with pets can cause additional fees and complicates transportation, so it is worth to think about pros and cons and make the right decision!
5. Is stuff in your backyard safe enough? What about your car, plants and other?
6. Where are your elders and how are they doing? Do you plan to visit them or feel ashamed for replacing the visit to them with a palm beach?
And all that other things ... But!

Who needs safety - the dog or its owner?

Hello, Mobiscopers. In this article we will talk about lovely pet-dogs and their role in our life. We know that many of you prefer remote monitoring of pets, amuse to watch their goofy and brave behavior even when you are away from home.

Dogs are men`s friends... You would say that we`ve heard this phrase thousand of times... and you will be right, but recently there have been substantial changes!

Some prefer to carry dogs in their bags (simultaneously causing a reaction among  Animal Rights Organizations), some own pets to have a reliable friend (additionally guaranteed happy mood), for others they firstly matter as a security and safety function. Oh yeah, almost forgot - there are also 'gift dogs' to satisfy kids caprice on Christmas or Birthday and then take care of them the way as one more kid has joined the family )))
